Rahul Kapoor (Imran Khan), 25, is on his way to become a carbon copy of his parents when he suddenly loses his job as an architect in Vegas. Afraid that he has let his parents down, Rahul decides to hide the truth and find another job. When by a twist of fate, he meets Riana Braganza (Kareena Kapoor), 26, a quick-witted hairstylist, who is everything he isn’t.

A series of events lead them to meet on Christmas eve over a few drinks… but like always, it’s never a ‘few’. Following this night of debauchery, they wake up to discover that they’ve gotten married. Now, Rahul has more than just his job loss to hide from his parents.

They both decide to get it annulled as soon as possible and get an appointment from the court in ten days. Over the next ten days they have their share of arguments, moments and laughs that results in an unlikely friendship.

Will this friendship turn to love? Will her warmth and fearlessness give Rahul the courage to face a long-simmering confrontation with his parents? Will a marriage that started as a drunken mistake help two people find themselves?

Amidst reports of her impending marriage with beau Siddharth Roy Kapoor, actress Vidya Balan, says, she would love to settle down but wedding is not on cards so soon. Grapevine had it that the ‘Dirty Picture’ star would tie the knot this year. When asked she said, “My career is going good. I am happy. Emotionally and mentally I am in happy space. I am not thinking of marriage as of now but a right time will come for it.” “I do believe in the institution of marriage. I will not ignore it for long time.
I will definitely get married,” she said, on the sidelines of the first look of her upcoming film, ‘Kahani’. Reportedly, Siddharth and Vidya have been dating since they met on the sets of ‘No One Killed Jessica’ early last year.

Though one was clear about what ‘Don’ would be like when Shahrukh Khan decided to remake the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, there was absolutely no clue thrown around what is in store from ‘Don 2′. Well, here is the reason why. It is apparent that the makers of the film (Farhan Akhtar, Shahrukh Khan and Ritesh Sidhwani) didn’t want to confuse audience since ‘Players’, which is about to release soon, is also based on the same theme.
Yes, the fact is that at the core of it all, both ‘Don 2′ and ‘Players’ deal with a heist. While gold bars worth crores is at stake in ‘Players’, the target for ‘Don 2′ is a bank. While one still awaits the outcome of the former, one can comfortably state that latter has indeed raised the bar. Pun intended.
Still, one can’t really say that ‘Don 2′ begins with a bang. Oh yes, there is banging and all involved but frankly, the entire ‘let’s kill Don’ followed by the fight sequence isn’t just a direct repeat of what one had seen in ‘Don’, it is also plain ordinary. The drama picks up though once Shahrukh catches up with Boman Irani (Vardhan) in jail and hatches his plan. 20 minutes into the film and you are hooked for good as you get sucked into Don’s plan here. Whether it is the jail break or the strategy devised around looting the bank, it is tough to blink an eyelid.
That’s because the second half of the film is an altogether different experience. To think of it, there are just two episodes that make for the 70 odd minutes that follow post the intermission. While first episode involves getting into the bank, the second is about getting out of it. It is to the credit of a well designed screenplay that makes you forget that popcorn tub and concentrate entirely on what really unfolds on screen.
With number of players involved in this heist like a hacker (Kunal Kapoor), a tough goon (Nawab), Vardhan, the moll (Lara Dutta), Interpol (Priyanka Chopra, Om Puri), German police, the Bank Vice President (Alyy Khan) and of course, Don himself, it turns out to be one roller coaster ride that is not just well written but also intelligently executed while being brilliantly shot.
Anything that sticks out as a sore thumb? Well, the fact that 3D conversion here is hardly the kind that makes much of a difference to the visuals. It doesn’t add much value to the visual appeal of the film and one just hopes that in the near future if a film decides to arrive in 3D, it is actually shot in real 3D instead of a conversion coming into play. Having said that, one is still willing to ignore this aspect of the film since right through the narrative, there is an enigmatic mix of tension and charisma that Don creates which ensures a steady momentum.
The man who makes this possible is Shahrukh Khan who gets into a mode like this after ages. He did get some flak for ‘Ra. One’ whereas in ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, he was hardly a hero that audience would have loved to see him as. However with ‘Don 2′ he gets the menacing side of him on display while charming the audience enough to root for him despite enacting a negative character.
Boman Irani, who has continued from where he left in ‘Don’, has the maximum screen time after Shahrukh and is well in his character without going overboard. This isn’t the kind of film where she was required to display histrionics but in the limited scheme of things, Priyanka Chopra fits in well. Lara Dutta adds glamour to the proceedings and adds value in a guest appearance. Amongst the other supporting actors, Kunal is immensely likeable and brings in a boyish charm. Om Puri is quite dispensable though Alyy Khan is controlled and plays his part gracefully. Nawab does well again, as always, and rises above the stereotype.
‘Wow’ – Now this is what you end up exclaiming not just around the time when end credits start rolling for ‘Don 2′ but quite a few times during the two and a half hours narrative of the film. Now this is one film which doesn’t take audience’s intelligence for granted. Gripping, stylish, thrilling and constantly making you think about what would happen next, ‘Don 2′ is unpredictable with several engaging sequences that ensure that it turns out to be much more than just a ‘paisa vasool’ affair.

It’s been a long time since we have seen Vikram playing a cool dude trying his hands at commercial elements. For those Vikram fans who wanted to see him as a mass hero once again, comes ‘Rajapattai’.
As a wannabe on-screen villain, Vikram sizzles. He is in his prime form playing the role with consummate ease. Be it stunts, romance or humour, the vintage Vikram is back to entertain one and all.
The movie has a wafer-thin storyline. The events are quite predictable, but the sheer screen presence of Vikram makes it count.
The director in Suseenthiran has taken a commercial avatar and has vouched not to override the grammar of commercial cinema. He has ensured that there is a mix of naach-gaana, stunts, punch lines and of course romance.
Anal Murugan (Vikram) is a gym boy who wants to become a big villain in cinema. Life takes a turn after he meets Dakshina Moorthy (Vishwanath), a senior citizen. He is on the road running for his life as his son Chidambaram (Avinash) is behind him for a piece of land where an orphanage is being run by Dakshinamurthy.
Chidambaram has big plans. He wants to give away the land to Sana (Ranganayaki), a State Minister and a land mafia and thereby enter politics. Now the cudgels fall on Anal Murugan to save the old man and the land.
Things become murkier as Vapa aka Abdul Kadhir (Pradeep Rawath), a dreaded don in the guise of noble man enters. Murugan now wages a battle between the corrupt Minister and Vapa. He starts using his brain to outwit them. In between there is a romantic escapade between Murugan and Dharshini (Deeksha Seth).
It is Vikram’s show all the way. He sizzles in various get-ups. He flexes his muscles and oozes romance in songs with Deeksha. A versatile actor, he puts in the same sincere effort for doing a commercial subject quite like his recent films like ‘Ravaanan’ or ‘Deiva Thirumagal’.
Deeksha Seeth, the tall and beautiful actress is a welcome addition to Tamil cinema. She is a typical Kollywood heroine appearing and disappearing at frequent intervals.
Three cheers to veteran Vishwanath who leaves his presence with a delightful performance. He can rightfully be called as the surprise element in the film, Suseenthiran has etched his character beautifully and it will definitely make audience want such a grandfather too. Sana, the newcomer plays a corrupt Minister. She fits the bill well. Pradeep Rawath makes a cameo while the likes of Avinash, Thambi Ramaiah form part of the project.
Madhie’s cinematography is a major plus. The soft tones he used to capture the sequences make it an interesting watch. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score is apt. The use of live drums in a couple of songs sequences sounds good.
Suseenthiran and Vikram are clear about their priorities. They wanted to do an out-and-out commercial masala. They manage to dish out one well thanks to producers PVP Cinemas.
If you want sheer entertainment for over couple of hours, ‘Rajapattai’ is the preferred destination.
