Road trip would be a common topic for the filmmakers in the intention to try to give something entertaining to the audiences which looks to them fresh and unique. However, to handle such topics is rather a tough task, such that it doesn’t look like an inspired version from the other road trip’s movies. In ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, director Zoya Akhtar tries her best to give some meaningful cinema so that the audiences not only gets the entertainment, but also discover a bit about the so called word ‘Life’.

Arjun (Hrithik), Imraan (Farhan) and Kabir (Abhay) are three best of friends who are also called fondly as ‘The Three Musketeers’. While Arjun works as a financial broker, quite a busy man, workaholic, and always gives first priority to his business and money; Imraan works as copywriter in one of the leading advertising company and is very flirtatious and jolly in nature; whereas Kabir has his own family business which is into construction and is very friendly in nature and knows how to play pranks. Now after having a wonderful engagement ceremony of Kabir with his girlfriend Natasha (Kalki), Kabir decided to have a bachelor road trip with his two other best friends, before he gets married which is soon to be happen in next two months. Country chosen Spain and the three musketeers headed on a fun-filled adventure road trip. After reaching Spain, they decide to travel three different cities in which they will do some adventure activity from the respective choices done by Arjun, Imraan and Kabir. First city was chosen by Kabir in which he opted out for a deep-sea diving activity, to which Arjun is afraid of water and swimming. There they meet a beautiful dive instructor Laila (Katrinna) to which she became a very good friend with all of them soon after. She not only taught Arjun swimming but had also taught him how to live life without having any fear in heart. In between this journey, both fell in love with each other. After that the three musketeers went to another city selected by Arjun’s choice and lastly on another by Imraan’s choice, with respective one daring and adventurous activity followed by them which not only teaches them how to have fun, but also teaches them how to overcome their fear and most importantly how to live life, which however changes forever after the trip.
The basic plot is simple and soothing which will engage the new-age audiences throughout the movie. As lot of movies will definitely get recollect within one’s memory while watching, for example ‘Dil Chahta Hain’, ‘Hangover’ and so on, but Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ has its own charm which impresses the viewers. And this is just because a quite decent, simple and engaging narration which definitely puts a big smile on your face after each and every scene.

Zoya Akhtar has already proved her talent by making her debut in direction with a momentous cinema like ‘Luck By Chance’ (2009), which was revolve around a story based on the Hindi Film Industry. Here by choosing a tough topic, a road trip, she once again had proved that she can handle now everything. As per the story, one would definitely get to know that it’s not an easy job to direct such kind of films, but Zoya had given a full justice to the story and had directed as per the genre. Apart from the general story, all the adventurous activities such as deep-sea diving, parachuting from almost 15 thousand feet, tomatina festival, running from the deadly bulls and so on, were just very just simply impressively shot. Also the much-hyped kissing scene between Katrina and Hrithik was aesthetically shot, but sadly the long-three-minute reportedly kissing scene was cut down to 30-sec scene.
Screenplay of the film, which was penned by Reema and Zoya, was soothing and attention-grabbing. Initial 15 minutes will just brief you about the introduction, but in a story format. First half provides you with some wonderful moments, some wacky-tacky between friends, little bit of humour and some exciting adventurous journey. While the second half bring some emotional content in the story, narrating in a very sweet and poetic way on how to live life which includes a bit humour and of course bold and daring activities. Also the screenplay of the film had given a full justice to each and every characters of the film, keeping in mind that no such roles or characters are being highlighted throughout the film.
Dialogues written by Farhan were funny, practical and moving. The poems and shayaris which were written by Javed Akhtar and spoken by Farhan through voice over in between the on-going story as a part of its narration were very inspirational and meaningful.
